Koko is a female gorilla living in captivity. Penny Patterson is the ethnologist teaching Koko to communicate her feelings though
sign language. Barbet Schroeder examines, through several interviews with
scientists and researchers, the issue of the ethics of animal testing and
comparing animals to human beings, considering the sophistication of their
languages and emotions.
