Padre tells the story of a great composer who, after his death, communicates with his daughter through his music. Dafoe plays an old family friend who initiates the heiress, interpreted by Giada herself, in the mysteries of communicating with the bereaved. The main role is played by Franco Battiato, whom the director considers “the greatest contemporary italian composer.”

Giada Colagrande (Pescara, Italy, 1975), began her career creating video art and directing documentaries on contemporary art. In 2001 she wrote, directed and starred in her first feature film, Aprimi il Cuore, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also directed Before it Had a Name, co-written and co-starred by Willem Dafoe, A Woman (2010), Bob Wilson’s Life & Death of Marina Abramovic (2012), and The Abramovic Method (2013), which resumed her collaboration with the artist Marina Abramovic. Padre, her most recent feature film, was also written, directed and interpreted by her.
