Director
Ladj Ly

Ladj Ly was born in 1978 in Mali. He is a French director and actor, known for his short-films and documentaries such as Infrarouge (2006) and Les Misérables (2017). He is part of the Kourtrajmé group, and founded a public film school which promotes diversity amongst its students, believing in a need to train a new generation of filmmakers from his neighborhood. Recently, he spoke about how “french cinema is very closed; it’s reserved for a certain elite,” with very few black directors, sharing a hope that his school can come burst this bubble.
