Born November 17, 1942, in Flushing, New York, Martin Scorsese is a film director, screenwriter and producer.
He attended New York University's film school, graduating in 1964. Scorsese made his first feature-length film in 1967, Call First, which was later retitled Who's That Knocking At My Door. His 1976 film Taxi Driver won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival, and received four Oscar nominations, definitely establishing him as a major filmmaker. Scorsese has since won several awards and distinctions, and is widely considered to be one of the most important figures of cinematic history.
