Late 1970s, state of California. Eddie Adams cleans dishes in a Hollywood nightclub until the day a porn director by the name of Jack Horner approaches him with a wink suggesting fame, money and a life above the shadows. In an impulse of revolt, the young dropout decides to follow him into the disreputable milieu of the adult industry and quickly becomes a porn star. Looking in on the humdrum routines of porno filmmaking, Boogie Nights reveals the hidden side of the entertainment film industry and evidences the way these characters – bearing their their own tricks, smirks and quirky traits – have just the same ambitions and dreams as those trying to make it in the visible world.
