Multifaceted artist Ellen Cantor worked on Pinochet Porn from 2008 to 2016, the last five years of her life. The film tells the story of five intertwined characters and their journey into adulthood through an experimental mish-mash of 8mm video, archival footage and animated drawings. Spruced up as a soap opera, both tragic and comic, it explores the relationship of these characters in regards to the political context of Pinochet’s dictatorship, as well as to topics of power and sexuality. An ambitious episodic narrative, posthumously completed by the director’s close collaborators, that ends with the question: is tragedy a choice?
