Taraf is an ensemble of 13 talented tzigane musicians coming from a Romanian village, Clejani, who have acquired great visibility in the European music scene.
Taraf tours in Portugal. The road and the stage have filled their itinerant days since the Belgian producer, Stéphane Karo, formed this celebrated lautari ensemble, 13 years ago, after Ceausescu’s fall. While playing for large audiences in different countries, these musicians keep alive a musical tradition that is also a way of affirming their own identity. Fulcral in Clejani life, loyal to their roots and to a village which is proud of their success and dependent on it, they go back home as often as possible to complete the building of a new house, to teach their first-born children the art of the violin, of the cymbalon or the accordion, and to share what they earn through their art and talent with their large families.
