This Transient Life’s narrative takes place around a Buddhist monastery. Masao, son of a rich merchant, rejects his father’s business, preferring instead to study sacred art. Yuri, his sister, is struggling to find a husband. The two fall in love, and the consummation of this incestuous relationship which will bring about devastating consequences.

Akio Jissoji (1937-2006) was a Japanese director that didn’t shy away from taboo and controversy throughout his rich and intriguing career. His most notable works include the erotic Buddhist trilogy – Mujō (1970), Mandala (1971), and Uta (1972) – and the 1960s TV series Ultraman and Ultraseven.
