John Carpenter

John Carpenter is an American director, songwriter, producer and screenwriter born in Carthage, New York.
His first short film, Dark Star, which later would be made into a film, was produced while Carpenter was a student at the University of South Carolina Film School. In 1976, he directed Assault on Precinct 13, honoring his idol Howard Hawks.
The film that established him in the world of cinema was the horror classic Halloween (1978) one of the most lucrative independent films ever.
Carpenter, despite being more associated with horror and science fiction films, with hits such as The Fog (1980) and Starman (1984), is a director who is not limited to a film genre having produced the action hit Escape from New York, in 1981. He has also composed most of the soundtrack of his films and has recently edited albums with these themes.
At the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, he was awarded the career award Carrossel d'Or, by the French Society of Directors.
