“I wanted to create a slice of poor women’s life living in the 21st century. Unfortunately, many of these women happen to inhabit the prison system, and I decided to focus on what it was like to be inside this community”, said C. Dunye.
Stranger Inside shows the reunion of a mother and daughter inside the prison. Treasure goes to the same prison where her mother, who she thought is dead, is sentenced to life imprisonment.
To write this script, C. Dunye met with women inmates in a Minnesota prison, working with them in a writing workshop.
