The Whale is the story of Charlie [Brendan Fraser in an unforgettable and moving performance], an English teacher who lives enclosed at home due to his morbid obesity condition, and who, in a redemptive attempt, tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter.
"This story allows us to step into the shoes of a man we would never even comprehend, and reminds us that the possibility of redemption and love is present in each one of us. For me, that's the power of cinema" Aronofsky said.

Director
Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky was born in 1969, in Brooklyn. Growing up, Aronofsky was always an artistic kid: he loved classical music and old films and, as a teenager, he spent a lot of time doing graffiti art. After high school, Darren went to Harvard to study film. His senior thesis short film Supermarket Sweep (1991) received several awards and was a finalist of the National Student Academy Award. His first feature film came seven years later and was PI. The film was also a success and opened doors for Aronofsky's big career in Hollywood. So far he has made huge critical and financial hits such as Requiem for a Dream (2000), Wrestler (2008) or Black Swan (2010) and has been nominated for Best Director in the Venice International Film Festival and at the Oscars. His latest film The Whale (2022), premiered with great acclaim at the Venice International Film Festival, receiving several awards, and will be exhibited at this year's LEFFEST.
