David Gordon Green
Back
David Gordon Green grew up in Dallas, Austin and Longview, Texas. He was “obsessed” with cinema from a very young age. While still in school, he directed
several short films and documentaries. His first feature (in
collaboration with friends, who also contributed with their own money)
was George Washington (2000), which was directed with children
who were acting for the first time. He has won several awards, including
Best First Film for the New York Film Critics Circle, the Discovery
Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Best Film at
the Torino Festival of Young Cinema.
In the following film, All the Real Girls
(2003), again with a low budget, Gordon Green managed to hire
professional actresses like Zooey Deschanel and Patricia Clarkson. The
movie won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. After
that, he worked with actors and actresses such as Kristen Stewart, Kate
Beckinsale, James Franco and Natalie Portman. With Prince Avalanche (2013), he received the Silver Bear (Best Director) at the Berlin Festival. He has worked for television as well.
