Richard Stallman is an activist and founder of the Free Software Movement.

A singular and controversial figure in geek culture, he worked at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab between 1971 and 1984 developing systems software. In 1983, he founded the Free Software Movement, aiming to saveguard users’ freedom, and began developing the GNU operating system, currently used on millions of computers. Stallman is part of the Internet Hall of Fame and has received numerous awards. He is interested in issues of social injustice, actively fighting corporations’ power and their exploitation of the less privileged.
